♦ TRADE (Blawan & Surgeon, Sheworks, UK)
TRADE is a collaboration between Jamie Roberts and Anthony Child, also known as Blawan and Surgeon. Two electronic musicians at the top of their game. They use cutting edge digital and analogue modular technology to create improvised techno landscapes.
In recent years, Blawan has cemented himself as one of the UK's most exciting artists while Surgeon has been releasing music since the early 90s. Although Blawan's sound leans towards the harsher end of the techno spectrum, his counterpart, and Trade companion, moves in the opposite direction to produce more ambient, intricate material within the genre. As a pair, the duo combine to dish up fierce techno, most apparent in the percussive 'Positive Neckline', taken from the 'Sheworks 005' release on Blawan and Pariah's She Works The Long Nights imprint. Their premiere at Dekmantel Festival last year is one was something we won't forget quickly en are proud to introduce this at Fuse.
♦ PSYK
Psyk, aka Manuel Anós, is nowadays firmly pegged to the actual techno scene. He doesn't seem to deviate from his trajectory justifying thus his precocious artistic ascension (signed his first release with MINUS, at the age of 19) Getting starched in his Birthplace Madrid, very close to the home where he have been initiated to Plastikman ́s musical melancholy and Jeff Mills boiling techno he's actually continuing serenely his career. Where many artists would have been disoriented, contented by weak ambitions, he have been refining his art, submerged passionately in underground clubs but goes back home to breath out fresh air.
His worldwide sets in clubs like TRESOR, BERGHAIN, RÖHSTOFLAGGER, FABRIK and so on, have been crystallizing his talent as DJ. Thanks to fusions combining the deepest, puristic and raw techno and strong influences of house and minimal, his sets with hypnotic rhythm and full of special care in planning and progression of these, have made him one of the most talented DJ's in recent years. Psyk's singularity illustrates a maturity which is very present in his music: from KRAFT ́s unanimously entraining, feverish techno music to more dark and deep titles of LOWDOWN, CRYPT and DRUMCODE and MOTE-EVOLVER Releases.
Like a conscientious artisan, Psyk deals carefully with his compositions adding somberly power with a subtle touch that makes him gain continuous praising from illustrious and not illustrious artistic figures as a constant guarantee of his quality. No wonder if we see him offering his talent under the patronage of emblems like LUKE SLATER, LEN FAKI, ADAM BEYER or making DUSTIN ZAHN ́s label more dynamic when he doesn't participate in his "NON SERIES" By developing, refining and purifying his sets, Psyk concentrates all his effort to concretize faithfully the agitating ideas of his mind.
♦ Skirt (Horizontal Ground, Frozen Border, US)
Bethany DeMoss, publicly known as Skirt, an American DJ and electronic music artist, residing in Birmingham for over a decade. Bethany began her prolific DJ career in the late 1990s after she bought her first turntables. She has been mixing vinyl ever since, have played records in many notable places all over the UK and internationally. Tokyo, Berlin, Athens, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Dublin, Amsterdam are only few cities to mention where DeMoss turned the crowd on with her exemplary mixing skills and moving techno rhythms by her beloved techno producers like Surgeon, Regis or Function.
Moreover, in the early 2000s DeMoss began producing her own music, but only in 2010 her first vinyl “In The Meadow Under The Stars” was released on then rising Horizontal Ground imprint. However, the last four years were amazingly productive and successful for DeMoss, she has released numerous of critically acclaimed records, mainly at the same Horizontal Ground and Sverca’s exceptional Semantica Records.
♦ Max Graef (Box Aus Holz, Tartelet Records, DE)
Max Graef is born and raised in Berlin; a prime example of the new generation of young producers emerging at the moment. His output is mature and well rounded, juggling everything from house, hip-hop & bass to indefinable hybrids of in-between. His own label “Box Aus Holz” is fast becoming a hub for upcoming producers focussing on raw house & disco. Besides releasing on his own imprint, Max is signed to Tartelet Records, where his debut album will be released in spring 2014.
Furthermore Max has releases on Heist (Detroit Swindle), Melbourne Deepcast, Sleazy Beats and The Gym and will be featured on the upcoming DJ Kicks (!K7) mixed by Brandt Brauer Frick.
♦ Glenn Astro (Magnet Musik, Gym Records, DE)
Currently residing in Essen, Glenn Astro has spent a bit more than half his life DJing and producing, first in the realm of hip-hop and more recently with an ear toward dance music. After his first releases in this style in 2011 and 2012, Glenn really went for it in 2013 with a trio of EPs that showed hip-hop's soul and house music's drive are in no way mutually exclusive.
This 26-year-old may embrace the latter these days, but when you close your eyes and let his gritty low-end do its dirty work, you'll hear plenty of the former's bump still kicking around in there. Glenn Astro's given us a whole lot of groove here—we invite you to have at it, and whet your appetite for his debut full-length due this summer on The Gym Rec.
