FUNCTION (Ostgut Ton, New York)
One of techno’s true underground heroes, Function (Dave Sumner) has been DJing and making music for over 15 years. Hailing from New York, he was seduced by techno music when Jeff Mills held a residency (as well as his own first) at the Limelight in the early 90s. Dave started to produce music and from the mid-90s onwards, put out music on Damon Wild’s Synewave and his own Infrastructure imprint. Together with Regis (Karl O’Connor) he worked as Portion Reform, putting out uncompromising music on Downwards and becoming the only non-Birmingham producer to release on the label.
RYAN ELLIOTT (Ostgut Ton, Detroit)
What matters most, above all else, is what comes through the speakers,” says Detroit’s Ryan Elliott. “It must be the right track at the right time, delivered in the right way.” Nobody knows this better than Elliott, whose distinction as an internationally respected DJ, remixer, and one-half of Spectral Sound’s A&R team has grown steadily over his decade-plus behind the decks. They don’t hand out “DJ’s DJ” reputations at the club door, and Elliott’s is well-earned and well-deserved.
ANTHONY PARASOLE (Ostgut Ton, Brooklyn)
Anthony Parasole should need no introduction to newer or longer-standing denizens of the New York Deep House and Techno scenes. A longtime employee of halcyon, friend of Levon Vincent and partner in Deconstruct Music, and a prominent figure with the underground house and Techno resurgence of NYC, Anthony’s acute selections won our ears right away, and he hasn’t let go since. Known for the deepest sounds of Techno and House and for gracing multiple dance floors home and abroad from Shelter to Berghain; and Djing regularly across North America & Europe.
DANA RUH (Cocoon, Berlin)
When she isn’t busy in the studio crafting textured tracks that work perfectly in back room basements and dirty warehouses, Dana is a fine DJ who holds down resident duties at top Berlin space Club Der Visionare. It is there that she lays down seductive tracks from the worlds of house and techno as well as gems in between, but so too does she do the same when on tour round world, hitting up clubs and festivals everywhere from the UK to the USA, Romanian to Russia. As such, despite working in such an over saturated and competitive field, Dana Ruh manages to speak louder and more coherently that most, and for that reason she deserves all the attention she gets.
AWANTO3 (Rush Hour, Amsterdam)
Music-wise you can expect all ranges of dance music from Awanto 3: everything from 100 bpm to 170 bpm. House, disco, techno, booty and juke, there is only one condition: there has to be soul in it. Speaking of which, Awanto 3 is kinda sensitive regarding decoration and lighting. In his view, every aspect in music and ambient conditions are just as important to set the right tone. He plays his records from his gut feeling, an intuitive reaction to what is going on on the dance floor.
