Biografie
About five years ago, after a big night in Fiji, a leather-skinned man named Waami crowned the salty haired boys from Sydney's southern beaches 'The Kava Kings'.They embody the sound and lifestyle of the beaches and will make you delirious with their Psychedelic Sun Pop.
The boys have hauled their vans along 8 Australian tours, covering both main cities and regional areas, and hitting your favourite festivals including Soundscape Sydney and Wollombi Festival. Along the way, they've shared the stage with Aussie favourites such as Ocean Alley, Winston Surfshirt, Lime Cordiale and The Beautiful Girls as well as international acts such as Ozomatli and The Skatalites (Jamaica).
Seeing a song in the exact same colour is not an unusual experience for brothers Tommy and Chris. This unusual phenomenon adds a new dimension to the music coming out of this Southern Beaches band. Tommy and Chris grew up in sync, creating the bands sound based on a shared experience of music.
Tommy, Chris, Luke, Nuge and Alex are ditching the van and heading across the seas to embark on their second European tour. They'll be bringing their explosive live show to audiences in Italy, Austria, France, The UK, and Surfana Festival in the Netherlands, representing Sydney's finest on the world stage.
2018 will be a big year for The Kava Kings as they gear up to release their debut album, which they've been working on with engineer and producer Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe). If you ask the Smithson brothers, to describe their upcoming track 'Friends', they'll tell you they see it in shades of green. however if your not a synesthetic, you could say 'Friends' explores the experience of growing up and the all too familiar notion of drifting apart from the ones we thought we'd always have. The boys describe the new direction they are heading in as a step away from their roots and a move towards incorporating more rock and electronic elements.
